Yuri Martianov is the leading tenor in St. Petersburg, Russia. A graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory of Music,
Martianov, studied under the world renowned professor Nina Serval, who has taught leading singers of the famous
Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Kirov Theater in St. Petersburg.
Yuri entered the world of music relatively late, at age 23. After high school he studied physics at
Leningrad University. He was literally discovered while singing in the shower after a game of volleyball.
A choir director advised him to immediately go to the Leningrad Conservatory. However, Yuri's mother
wanted him to be a physicist, and arranged an audition with Antonina Grigorieva, teacher of famous Russian
singer Elena Obratsova, on the hope she would dissuade him from entering music and singing as a career.
Instead, she recommended he go to the Conservatory, which he did immediately. In his fourth course,
Martianov earned the tenor part of Alfred in La Traviata - a complicated leading role for a conservatory
student. In the fifth course he sang the lead role of Lensky in the Russian opera Eugene Onegin for the
Musicians theater of the Conservatory - a music center of musical culture in Russia.
At that time he also
prepared for the role of Faust. Martianov has sung lead roles in Italian, French and Russian opera at the
Tchaikovsky Theatre in Perm, Maly Theatre in St. Petersburg, and the Theatre Conservatoria in St. Petersburg.
As Nadir in Bizet's "Pearl Fishers", Lensky in "Eugene Onegin", Kuragin in "War and Peace", Alfred in
"La Traviata", Rudolph in "La Boeme" and other lead roles. Yuri often performs on television in
St. Petersburg and is invited to perform at special events throughout Russia, such as Archangelsk's
50 year Remembrance of the World War II for 1,500 Allied veterans. He had the lead role in
"The Last Days" a new Russian opera by Andre Tihomirov, which was performed in the Big Hall of the
St. Petersburg Philharmonic Symphony.
In the appearances of Yuri there were the uncommon cases, when he in the urgent order had learned
and had sung party in baritone on the concert performance "Carminy Burany" by Karl Orfa, in the Large
Hall of the Philharmony of Saint Petersburg and the stages of other cities of Russia.
Last years he often comes out with its wife, the chief soloist of the Mikhajlovsky Academic
Theater of Opera and Ballet named by Musorgskiy, in which Yuri worked earlier. Six years ago
Yuri at the anniversary had sung with other two tenors (Victor Krivonos and Anatoly Tukish)
potpourri, which was sung before by the famous troika of tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras)
and since then Martianov and partners began to come out often together. Year ago instead of
A. Tukish Igor Rubtsov began to sing with them. "Three Russian tenors" give performances in
the best halls of Saint Petersburg, Moscow and other cities of Russia.
